2026-2027 RESIDENCIES
The applications for the 2026-2027 residencies are now closed.
The residencies are held in Lee, Massachusetts for 7-10 days. Residents are provided room, board, working space, and a stipend of $600 for the duration of their time in Lee. Residents also have the option to invite up to 3 collaborators for any portion of the residency.

The Barn at Lee provides residencies to emerging artists working in the field of Performing Arts. The Emerging Artist has a notoriously elusive definition, but we like many aspects of this definition of an Early Career Artist from the Jerome Foundation:

Eligible artists for our programs are in the early stages of their creative development with 2-10 years of generative experience, and:

-
have a focused direction and goals, even while still developing their artistic “voice”
-
have yet to be substantially celebrated within their field, the media, funding circles or the public at large
-
are vocational (as opposed to avocational, academic, amateur or educational) artists

Our residencies are open to artists working on projects at all stages of development. There is no deliverable requirement. The Barn at Lee only asks that a portion of the residency be open to the public. The nature of this opening is flexible and will be designed for the benefit of both the people who join us at the Barn and the working artist. We're currently offering one residency in Fall 2026 (roughly the second full week of October) and one in Spring 2027 (roughly the first full week of June). We accept artists from all over the world, but can only provide a travel stipend of up to $100.

The Barn at Lee provides residencies for artists working in the live arts, including, but not limited to, playwrights, dancers, musicians, performance artists and other live performance practices. If you currently practice an art form not performed in front of a live audience (e.g. screenwriting, fiction, painting and sculpting, photography or video arts), we are not equipped to support your work at this time.

If you have any questions about the residency or the application, please contact us at info@thebarnatlee.org.
